Hydraulic Cylinder Repair
Hydraulic cylinders are critical components in machinery, converting fluid power into linear motion. Repairing them requires precision and understanding of their mechanics. First, we identify the issue: common problems include leaks, bent rods, or worn seals. Leaks often stem from damaged seals or cracked barrels, while bent rods result from excessive force or misalignment. Worn seals reduce pressure and efficiency, leading to sluggish performance.
Disassembly & Inspection
Next, we carefully disassemble the cylinder, draining the hydraulic fluid and removing the rod, piston, and end caps. Use a clean workspace to avoid contamination—dirt or debris can ruin seals or scratch surfaces. We inspect each part. We’ll check the rod for straightness using a dial indicator; even slight bends compromise performance. Then we examine the barrel for scoring or corrosion, which can be honed or, in severe cases, replaced. Seals, often the root of leaks, are inspected for cracks or wear.
Cleaning
Cleaning is critical. We use solvent to remove old fluid, grime, and metal shavings. Once clean, we reassemble the cylinder, install new seals, ensure proper orientation as backward seals leak instantly. We then lubricate moving parts with hydraulic fluid to reduce friction during reassembly and then tighten bolts to manufacturer torque specs.
